In reaching a decision on whether to proceed with Monksfield Solar Farm (aka Chapel Hill Solar Farm), planners and councillors will need to weigh the potential harms and benefits arising if it were to be approved.
Much of this website focuses on the harms that the development will cause, in areas such as landscape, fire risk and traffic congestion. But what about the benefits?
It would be easy, to think that the benefits from renewable energy are clear and substantial. But are they? Watch the evidence-based videos in this section of our website, to find out more.
We also counter the claim that PPLAN are simply NIMBYs – with evidence of our own!
The Folly of Net Zero
The video below features US author and film maker Robert Bryce. It describes how the net zero agenda destroys future energy supply and the economy. Whilst relating to the application of Net Zero in Australia, the same principles apply here in the United Kingdom. Indeed, whilst Australia emits 1.1% of CO2, the UK is responsible for less than 1%!
Is renewable energy cheaper?
One chart referenced by Robert Bryce is the correlation between energy prices and the proportion of energy supplied from renewable sources using International EnergyAgency data. The chart is reproduced below. The horizontal axis shows proportion of energy supplied from wind and solar, and the vertical axis, the cost per Kilo Watt Hour in Canadian $.

We can see that:
- those countries with a higher proportion of energy supplied from solar and wind tend to have higher energy costs
- the UK already has high energy costs and a high proportion of energy supplied from wind and solar
Quite clearly, renewable energy is not cheaper, and this is a global phenomenom.
